Thank you for all of these articles’ I’m learning so much useful information. If I can ask: In an article last week you mentioned that Anthropic and OpenAI are using very different approaches to expanding / building Ai. OpenAI is betting on infrastructure and spending billions while Anthropic is focused on better (?) products. What do you think making MCP open source do for for the growth of AI?

You're welcome, I'm glad you find them useful.

Yes, I didn't mention MCP in last week's article but it is probably the single best example of the difference between the respective approaches taken by Anthropic and OpenAI.

OpenAI has spent an ungodly amount of money to obtain a similarly massive amount of infrastructure, but all of that infrastructure is just more of what already existed.

Anthropic has invented an entirely new type of infrastructure and shared it with the world. Not out of the goodness of their hearts, but because they want everyone to use the infrastructure that their moneymakers use, thereby making their moneymakers even more powerful.

Speaking as a developer, I think there is a very good chance that MCP being open source will create an explosion of AI tools and integrations made by smaller companies. The artists who love to complain about "AI slop" will say things like "I want AI to do my dishes so I have more time to spend on the art I enjoy making"; MCP unironically makes that a real possibility, because now there is a way for AI to potentially talk to your dishwasher or any other machine you can imagine.
